1,200 volunteers come together across 60+ sites along the Catawba-Wateree River Basin for one goal. Remove as much trash from our waterways as possible in one day. And this day is called Riversweep.

The Catawba Riversweep is a community cleanup event with the goal of removing 50,000 pounds of trash in a single day. This goal is a collective effort of dozens of nonprofit, governmental and for profit organizations along with over a thousand community members from across 26 counties in North and South Carolina. Riversweep is an example of the power of collaboration and cooperation.

This unique community engagement event is organized and led by the Catawba Riverkeeper, a 501c3 nonprofit organization that is dedicated to the preservation and protection of the local waterways that make up the 5,000 sq.mile Catawba-Wateree River Basin. This Basin is the main source of drinking water for over 2 million people across the Carolinas.

Beginning in 2002, a dedicated and passionate group of volunteers on Lake Wylie started the Lake Wylie Riversweep and thus began the “Riversweep Tradition” on the Catawba River. Since then, dozens of other groups have continued their tradition with their own local riversweeps in their communities.

Beginning in 2020, all of these groups began coming together on the same day with the same purpose: clean up trash and debris from our river, lakes, creeks, and streams.

For this year, Catawba Riverkeeper is hoping to raise $12,500 by the date of Riversweep, October 5, in honor of their initiative of removing 125,000 of trash from the Catawba-Wateree River Basin waterways in 2024!

To help us reach this goal, the Catawba Riverkeeper Board has pulled together to create a $5,000 matching gift campaign! That means for every dollar you give; it will double the impact for their mission-critical work, including Riversweep. Thank you for your vital sponsorship support.
