Floating Classroom provides a unique hands-on learning experience while on Lake Norman.
Help us teach and inspire our next generation about the importance of their local waterways!
Help us teach and inspire our next generation about the importance of their local waterways!
The Catawba River Basin is a resource that everyone across our Basin should learn from and be inspired by, right?
The long-awaited Floating Classroom is officially docked on Lake Norman, with programming beginning this Fall!
Thanks to the support from several generous donors who contributed to the build out of the Floating Classroom and our Spring campaign contributors who provided us with the funding necessary to submit final paperwork and make necessary safety repairs, our 12x40 ft. tri-toon Classroom with twin 150 horsepower engines is ready to welcome everyone aboard for hands-on learning experiences.
Programs on the Floating Classroom will teach students of all ages about local water quality, ecology, wildlife, environmental stewardship, and the history of the Catawba River. With the ability to experience classes on the water, this will help students become fully immersed in the subject matter.
Education programs will operate out of Davidson College's Lake Campus in Mooresville, NC.
As we prepare for the kickoff of the Floating Classroom season, we still are in need of funds to purchase items such as education supplies, fuel to take students on the Lake and safety equipment.
We are also raising money for scholarships. Our goal is to provide the Floating Classroom experience free of charge for the students and groups who otherwise couldn't afford the opportunity.
