The Role of Water Access in Environmental Justice
Catawba Riverkeeper hosts The Color of Water, a program in collaboration with the Reimagining America Project (RAP). The program, which will run from 7-8 p.m., will feature panelists who will explore the role of water access to environmental justice in the Catawba-Wateree River Basin.
Panelists:
Vicki Taylor, Executive Coordinator and Board Member, Catawba-Wateree Relicensing Coalition
Shirley Greene, Lake Wateree homeowner and member of the Catawba-Water Water Management Group Community Stakeholders Board and Catawba-Wateree Relicensing Coalition Board
Jackie Bagley, Director of Construction and Facilities, Catawba Nation and board member of Catawba Riverkeeper
Moderation: John Searby, Executive Director of Catawba Riverkeeper and President of the Catawba-Wateree Relicensing Coalition
Panelists will discuss some of the historical challenges communities of color have faced accessing the river, lakes, and streams across our river basin. They will highlight improved access resulting from the Duke FERC relicensing process (particularly the new swim and fishing access in the basin). They will also envision a future with equitable access to our waterways.
Attendees are welcome to come before and stay after the program to socialize in The Catawba Riverkeeper’s taproom.
